2010 Audi A4 launched in Australia
2010 Audi A4 was released on the Australian market this week. The most efficient mid-size sedan ever, the Audi A4 uses only 4.8 L/100 km, with just 124g/km of CO2 emission. Other fuel-saving measures include intelligent alternator regulation to reduce engine load, a five percent higher final drive ratio and Driver Efficiency, a system that indicates the most frugal gear-shift points and other fuel saving hints.
The stop-start system is designed to shut the 2.0 litre turbo diesel engine down when neutral is selected and the clutch is released. When the clutch is depressed again, the engine restarts.
In city traffic conditions, Audi claims its stop-start system can save up to 1.5 l/100km. Even in the highway cycle test, stop-start is responsible for a 0.2 l/100km fuel saving.
With the introduction of the A4 2.0 TDI e, Audi now has a range of 22 vehicles that consume 7.0 l/100km or less. This means full or partial exemption from the Federal Government's Luxury Car Tax for new car buyers.
As part of its Progressive Performance program for sustainable motoring, Audi also now provides stop-start, brake energy recovery and Driver Efficiency with its A4 and A5 2.0 TFSI models.
Audi says it has committed its operations to emissions-free motoring in the long term, with the likes of the Audi e-tron an example of what is to come from the German carmaker.
With every new model generation released Audi seeks to improve fuel efficiency by ten percent without sacrificing performance. By 2012, Audi aims to have reduced the overall consumption of its entire range by 20 percent.
