Mercedes-Benz has announced pricing for the most powerful SLK of all time, the SLK 55 AMG. This exclusive high-performance pinnacle of the SLK range is now available to order for a highly competitive on-the-road price of 54.950 GBP. It is powered by a new, naturally aspirated, direct-injection version of AMG’s charismatic 5.5-litre V8 engine, driving the rear wheels through a responsive seven-speed AMG SPEEDSHIFT 7G-TRONIC PLUS automatic transmission. The new V8 engine develops 421hp at 6,800rpm and 540Nm of torque at 4,500rpm, ensuring extremely rapid acceleration: 0-62mph takes just 4.6 seconds on the way to a limited top speed of 155mph. Yet fuel economy and CO2 emissions have been reduced by 30 per cent, an incredible achievement, through the introduction of AMG’s Cylinder Management System, similar to that on Mercedes-Benz Formula 1 engines. This shuts off two cylinders on each bank of the V8 when the car is running on light throttle loads... An ECO stop/start system is also fitted so that the SLK 55 AMG uses no fuel and emits no CO2 when stationary in traffic. Combined fuel economy is 33.6mpg, with CO2 emissions of 195g/km.

The new Mercedes-Benz ML 63 AMG stands for efficiency and performance, exclusivity and a superlative driving experience. Returning 23.9 mpg (NEDC combined, 276 g CO2/km), the high-performance SUV boasts a 28 per cent improvement in efficiency over its predecessor. The basis for this better fuel consumption and top-class performance is provided by the AMG 5.5-litre V8 biturbo engine with a maximum power output of 525 hp and maximum torque of 700 Newton metres, representing an increase of 15 hp and 70 Newton metres. The optionally available AMG Performance package boosts the V8 engine's power output to 557 hp and its maximum torque to 760 Newton metres. The newly developed ACTIVE CURVE SYSTEM for active roll stabilisation, the AMG-specific design and the broad scope of standard equipment and appointments provide for a highly attractive overall package.

Diesel drive and roadster excitement do not go together – or so a common misconception would have it. Mercedes-Benz impressively demonstrates the contrary with the new SLK 250 CDI. Its four-cylinder diesel engine with a displacement of 2143 cc generates an output of 204 hp and 500 newton metres of torque – as much as a petrol engine with twice the displacement would normally generate. This makes the new SLK 250 CDI the most powerful diesel model in its class, and gives the roadster the potential for extremely sporty performance. Equipped with the standard 7G-TRONIC PLUS automatic transmission (a six-speed manual transmission will follow in the second quarter of next year), the diesel SLK sprints from 0-62 mph in 6.7 seconds and achieves a top speed of 150 mph.
