More than 310,000 orders have been received for the new Polo ever since Volkswagen launched the model in March 2009. Volkswagen announced that it is now offering another version – the Polo BiFuel, which can operate either on LPG gas, or on gasoline. In LPG mode, the Polo BiFuel emits 9% less CO2 per kilometer as compared to the gasoline mode. Since fuel costs are only at about EUR5.18 for 100 kilometers in the LPG mode, this car is also highly economical.

Another advantage to this model is its bivalent drive of the Polo BiFuel, with the driver being able to switch to gasoline at the touch of a button. Powering the Polo BiFuel is a 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine that generates 82hp in LPG mode.  Average fuel consumption is 8.1 liters per 100 kilometers (29 mpg), while CO2 emissions level is 132 g/km. When in gasoline mode, the 1.4-liter unit produces 85hp and has an average fuel consumption of 6.1 liters/100 km (38.5 mpg). CO2 emissions are rated at 146 g/km.

Similar to the Golf BiFuel, the Polo BiFuel has the gas tank located where the spare wheel would typically be. With a tank capacity of 52 liters, the Polo BiFuel can boast a range of about 640 kilometers in LPG mode. If we consider the gasoline mode range of 660 kilometers (from a 45 liter tank), this Polo can actually run without refueling for 1,300 kilometers. The factory solution for the new Polo BiFuel has some clear advantages over LPG aftermarket systems.

The most valuable advantage is the fact that the car was subjected to crash tests, where it was found that risks are minimal in case of an accident. The client also receives warranty for the entire vehicle, including all gas components. The new Polo BiFuel is offered in Germany for a starting price of EUR16,325. The car is available in three trims — Trendline, Comfortine and Highline.
