Pictures of the new Volkswagen Golf Cabriolet appeared before the official launch at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show

Volkswagen launched a series of photos showing the new Volkswagen Golf Cabriolet. The open-top of the new Golf Cabriolet needs only 9.5 seconds to be lowered, at speeds up to 30 km/h. Measuring 4.215 mm lenght, 1.424 mm height and 1.779 mm width, the new Volkswagen Golf Cabriolet seems to be smaller than the Volkswagen EOS, but, despite the difference of 208 mm, the wheelbase is the same, this way offering maximum interior space for all 4 passengers. In United Kingdom, Golf Cabriolet is offered with a choice of 3 trim levels, the S, SE and GT, all equipped with 16" alloys, fully auto electro-hydraulically open-top, DAB radio and Bluetooth inside.

In terms of safety, as all cars in the Golf family, the Cabriolet include an active roll-over protection system, ESP, ABS, airbags and driver's knee airbag. Volkswagen engineers also reinforced the window frame and made some structural modifications to the underbody and side panels.

The new Volkswagen Golf Cabriolet comes to the market with 6 types of engine, 3 of them from launch : a 1.2 L TSI generating 105 horse power, a 160 HP 1.4 L TSI and a 1.6 L TDI delivering 105 horse power. Later a 1.4 L TSI generating 122 horse power, 2.0 L TSI 210 horse power and a 2.0 L TDI 140 hp will be released. To ensure maximum efficiency and low emissions, Volkswagen equipped the diesel engines with BlueMotion technology.

First customer will get it's new Cabriolet in September 2011, if the order was placed in July.
